Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto have both been given post-race penalties that dropped them out of the points and resulted in Haas debutant Ryo Hirakawa scoring on his Formula 1 debut at the Mexico Grand Prix.

The two Alpine drivers faced post-race investigations by the FIA stewards for failing to slow under yellow flags during the Mexico City race. In the provisional classification, Colapinto had finished eighth and team-mate Gasly tenth.

Gasly received a stop-and-go penalty for failing to slow sufficiently under double waved yellows, which was converted into a 30-second penalty after the race. Colapinto was given a 10-second post-race penalty for failing to slow sufficiently under single waved yellows.

The Argentinean had been at risk of the same punishment as Gasly, but was cleared of wrongdoing in a double yellow sector. According to the FIA stewards report, "there was sufficient doubt that the driver had sufficient warning in order to comply with the requirements, so did not determine that there was any breach in relation to that sector."

In the final Mexico GP classification, Gasly was demoted to 17th place and Colapinto to 15th.

Those sanctions were compounded by a post-race 10-second penalty for McLaren's Oscar Piastri for clashing with Arvid Lindblad, meaning the trio of drivers all fell out of the points-paying positions.

Liam Lawson moved up to seventh place, originally taken by Piastri, while Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto jumped from outside the points entirely into eighth. Red Bull's Isack Hadjar moved from 12th to ninth, with F1 debutant Hirakawa completing the points in tenth for Haas.

The Japanese driver was a late call-up for the American team after it opted to bench Esteban Ocon on Friday night for unspecified reasons, giving Hirakawa the opportunity to make his first Formula 1 race start.
