Rafael Camara says he has plenty to learn as he prepares to make his Formula 1 debut with Haas at the São Paulo Grand Prix. The Brazilian will replace Esteban Ocon at his home event and drive a 2026 car for the first time this weekend.

Haas reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa stepped in at the previous race in Mexico City, but will make way for Camara because he has a World Endurance Championship finale to contest. Haas had already announced that the Ferrari junior, who currently leads the Formula 2 standings, would race for the team next season. His São Paulo appearance brings forward his first race before he takes on that full-time role.

Camara said he was grateful to Haas for the opportunity and thanked Ferrari for its continued support. He described making his debut in Brazil as special, adding that his priorities are to work closely with the team, understand the car and do the best job he can.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu previously said Camara impressed during a two-day test in the team’s 2025 car at Portimão. The test showed his pace and ability to handle pressure, according to Komatsu.

Camara will race alongside fellow Ferrari-backed driver Ollie Bearman. The Briton said the team had shown promising pace in recent races but that he had yet to finish, following retirements in the United States and Mexico. Bearman also made a late appearance for Haas at the São Paulo venue in 2024, after earlier FP1 outings and two Grand Prix starts.

Bearman said he hoped to end his run of retirements in São Paulo and work with Camara to score points for Haas as the season enters its business end.
