McLaren Racing has promoted Grégoire Saucy to a full-time race seat in its MCL-HY Hypercar for the team’s planned debut in the World Endurance Championship in 2027. He becomes the fifth driver named for the programme.
Saucy joined McLaren’s driver line-up after beginning his sportscar career with United Autosports in the European Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours, driving an Oreca LMP2. He first gained experience with McLaren in the 720S in LMGT3 before working on the development of the Dallara-chassis LMDh car.
He has driven the hybrid prototype since its first outing at Varano de’ Melegari, testing alongside Mikkel Jensen and later with fellow McLaren works drivers Laurens Vanthoor, Leonardo Fornaroli and Alex Lynn.
Saucy said he had hoped his work during the development season could lead to a race seat, and thanked McLaren for the opportunity. Team principal James Barclay said Saucy had impressed during testing with his pace, methodical approach and progress, adding that the promotion reflects the purpose of McLaren’s driver development programme.
Saucy recently won the 2026 European Le Mans Series title with Ben Hanley and Griffin Peebles for United Autosports. Malthe Jakobsen is expected to complete McLaren’s Hypercar line-up, according to the report.
