Kimi Antonelli became Italy’s next Formula 1 World Champion on November 1, 2026, ending a 73-year wait for the country. The 20-year-old secured the title in Mexico City, following Giuseppe Farina’s 1950 triumph and Alberto Ascari’s back-to-back championships in 1952 and 1953.
Antonelli’s achievement also places him among a select group of drivers who won the championship in their second Formula 1 season. Juan Manuel Fangio, Jacques Villeneuve and Lewis Hamilton had previously achieved the feat.
